CASCI is pleased to invite members to our upcoming virtual Brown Bag education session on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This one-hour complimentary education session is offered as a benefit to CASCI members and will feature Lorna Drope, Private Attorney - limited conservatorship and when a supportive decision-making agreement may be an alternative.
Lorna is a tax and estate planning attorney who has been practicing law since 1995. She is licensed to practice in California, Nevada, and Arizona and holds a Masters in tax law which she received cum laude from the University of San Diego in 2002. Prior to starting her own practice (Special Needs Law Group, APC), she worked as a tax consultant for ARTHUR ANDERSEN, LLP, an international accounting firm formerly known as one of the “Big Five” accounting firms. She also worked as a tax consultant for myCFO, INC., a wealth advisory and tax planning firm for high-net-worth individuals. She also served as of-counsel to HOGE, FENTON, JONES & APPEL, INC. practicing in the estate planning department.
Lorna’s primary focus is special needs planning. She also works closely with nonprofit organizations. She has served as chairman of the board of directors for three non-profits serving the Bay Area special needs community: Angels on Stage, Special Kids Connect in Monterey County, and California Community Opportunities (CCO), an organization providing housing opportunities for individuals with special needs. In addition, she served on the board of directors of Pacific Autism Center for Education (PACE) and Life Services Alternatives (LSA).

Peter Stern does estate planning and incapacity planning in Palo Alto. He is a 1981 graduate of
Stanford Law School, having taught history at Stanford prior to becoming a lawyer. He has served on the Executive
Committee of the State Bar's Trusts and Estates Section, which he also chaired; he is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), where he chaired the Elder Law Committee; and he served on the Judicial Council's Probate and Mental
Health Advisory Committee.

This one-hour complimentary education session is offered as a benefit to CASCI members and will feature Alexis Moody, Probate Guardianship Overview & LACY's Role as Court Appointed Counsel.
Alexis Moody is the Directing Attorney at Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY), a program of the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley. LACY provides holistic legal services to thousands of children and young adults, from infancy to age 25 in the areas of dependency law, probate guardianships, education rights, immigration, family law, and more.
Alexis joined the LACY team in 2016 as a staff attorney practicing primarily family law and probate guardianships, representing children in guardianships via court appointments and directly. In 2019 she became a Supervising Attorney at LACY, overseeing all of the team’s probate guardianship, family law and immigration work, which included a team of five attorneys. In 2024, Alexis became the Directing Attorney and now oversees all aspects of the program, which includes approximately 30 staff. Prior to joining LACY, she was a solo practitioner representing parents, children and guardians in family law and probate cases. Alexis also previously worked for Pro Bono Project Silicon Valley where she coordinated their guardianship project.
